The California paid sick leave law works!

Another Blogger post affirming my support for an existing California law, I am a strong supporter of California's paid sick leave law.

I think it is important that a person such as myself who is seeking to run for office makes it clear where he stands on issues like this. And although my position is more or less the same as the incumbent on this issue, as previously emphasized, the major impetus for me to run for California Senate is my strong belief that we need universal healthcare in California, which is in contrast to how the incumbent has chosen to vote. Yes, the incumbent voted for the California paid sick leave law, but he did not vote to make sure you could go to see a doctor rather than just going home from work when you are sick.

I would like to see further legislation that would make it illegal for employers in California to ask prospective employees about their history of being sick in previous jobs, either as part of their applications or pre-employment testing.

In my opinion where I stand is in many ways similar to where the incumbent stands, although he may disagree with that. But I think it is important that we look at passing the baton to new individuals, especially given the existence of term limits for members of the California Senate. The incumbent will have to leave office eventually, so why not look at replacing him with somebody with a big heart like myself. And he can always try to win the seat back the next time around. For these reasons I feel it is a good idea for me to explain where I stand, not just how I am different but also how I am similar.
